Just a few of the recent news items about our program, faculty, students, and alumni.

Micheline Aharonian Marcom

The UVA Creative Writing Program is delighted to announce the appointment of Micheline Aharonian Marcom to the faculty. Marcom is the author of six books, including a trilogy about genocide and its aftermath (in Armenian Turkey and Guatemala), two novels (so far) in a “domestic” trilogy about intimacies among women and men, an illuminated fabulist book of dreams, and, soon to appear, a novel chronicling the lives of young migrants from Latin America. She is the founder and creative director of The New American Story Project, a digital and public-arts project telling the stories of immigrants and refugees. She earned her BA in comparative literature from UC Berkeley in 1990 and her MFA in 1999 from Mills College, where she has taught since 2002. Her honors include prestigious Whiting, Lannan, and PEN/USA awards. She will be an exceptionally inspiring colleague and teacher, and all of us in Creative Writing are excited to welcome her.
