Ana María Shua to Visit UVA as Rea Visiting Writer in

The University of Virginia Creative Writing Program is delighted to announce that Ana María Shua will visit UVA in March 2027 as part of our Rea Visiting Writer Series.

One of the most celebrated contemporary writers in the Spanish-speaking world, Shua is the author of more than eighty books, including novels, story collections, children's literature, and works of nonfiction. She is especially renowned for her pioneering contributions to microfiction, a genre in which she is widely regarded as a master. Her work has been translated into numerous languages and has earned international recognition for its wit, imagination, and stylistic precision.

Shua's stories skillfully blend the fantastic, the comic, and the unsettling, creating richly inventive worlds that challenge readers' assumptions about reality, memory, and desire. Across a distinguished career spanning decades, she has established herself as one of Latin America's most original and influential literary voices.
