Bio

While the official hiring is still in process, we are pleased to announce that Jesse Ball will serve as our Kapnick Foundation Distinguished Writer-in-Residence for fall 2023. A self-described fabulist and absurdist, Ball has published twenty books of short and long fiction, nonfiction, verse, and drawings (including several collaborative projects with other graphic artists). He earned his BA in English from Vassar in 2000 and his MFA in poetry from Columbia University School of the Arts in 2004; since 2007, he has taught at the School of the Art Institute in Chicago. Named one of Granta’s Best Young American Novelists, he has won numerous prizes, including a Guggenheim, a Plimpton Prize, and an NEH Fellowship.
